Keep Your Pet Safe On Halloween!

Halloween is a fun and festive time for families, and even though our pets look oh-so cute in their little superhero or cat burglar costumes, Halloween can pose very serious threats to their safety. Pet and Home Care is here to provide tips to keep your pet happy and safe this spooky season!

  • Keep pets inside and away from the door! Similar to Independence Day, Halloween has a high rate of lost pets reported. Dogs may become anxious or territorial from frequent trick-or-treaters, and even spooked from certain costumes. It’s vital to keep pets confined and away from the door. This goes for cats too! Want to take extra precaution? Book a stay at our Pet Resort to ensure your pooch has a relaxing night away from the commotion.
  • Stash the treats! Chocolate is especially hazardous for animals, and can even be lethal in large doses. Keep an eye for symptoms of chocolate poisoning. Sugar-free candies containing the artificial sweetener xylitol can also cause serious problems for pets.
  • Watch your step! Make sure to keep wires, decorations, electric cords and lit jack-o-lanterns out of reach from your fuzzy friend.
  • Give a pal a pumpkin! Pumpkin supports digestion, boosts the immune system and helps keep fur and skin healthy. Try adding a dollop of pureed pumpkin to your pet’s dinner for a tasty, festive treat!

October Is Adopt A Shelter Dog Month!

October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, and you can help support the ASPCA’s #FindYourFido Campaign! The campaign engages animal advocates across the country to adopt and to share profiles of adoptable dogs in their communities on social media in hopes of helping them find loving, safe homes. Here is how you can help:

Adopt: Thinking about adding a new furry friend to your family? If you are ready to open your heart and home to a homeless animal in need, consider adopting a pet from your local shelter this month. you can use the ASPCA’s handy shelter database tool to find adoptable pets in your area.

Fundraise: What better way to celebrate your love of dogs than to host a fundraiser in their honor? Join us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for 31 Days of Rescue Dogs! All you have to do is post one photo a day of your favorite rescue dog for 31 days on your favorite social media channel using the hashtag #31DaysOfRescueDogs. Ask your friends and followers to donate $1 a day to your Team ASPCA fundraiser page in exchange for 31 days of adorable doggie photos. Just $31 can help provide food, shelter and the chance at a loving home for a dog in need.

Give: While not everyone can adopt a dog this October, the good news is that you can still help find loving homes for pets in need by making a gift to the ASPCA today. Your generous contribution will help support our rescues, grants and adoption programs, and will help us get so many more animals off the streets and out of harm’s way.
