6 Things You Don’t Know About Pet and Home Care

What started as an after-school gig back in the late-90s is now a thriving pet care business that services thousands of clients in Maryland and DC. So what’s the secret to Pet and Home Care’s success? Here are six things that even the most loyal long-time customers may not know about Pet and Home Care.

1) Pet and Home Care has been around since 1999

Pet and Home Care founder Tiffany Lewis started walking dogs in her Potomac neighborhood when she was a junior in high school. With a combination of hustle and word of mouth, her little side gig after school turned into a seven-day-a-week job that has snowballed into what it is today.

2) Pet and Home Care employs more than 40 team members

Of course, there’s only so much a one-woman band can handle in the pet care business. By 2002 PHC grew to a point that Tiffany couldn’t service every client and hired her first team member. As the client list grew over the years, so did the staff. Today, PHC employs more than 40 pet sitters, resort attendants and office staff. The company is always on the lookout for animal enthusiasts to join the team. If you or someone you know would love to work with pets full time or part time, we encourage you to apply through the Pet and Home Care careers page!

3) All Pet and Home Care sitters and resort staff are certified in pet care and pet CPR

If you want to join the Pet and Home Care team, it’s not enough to be just an animal lover. All PHC team members are required to complete a full in-person training and evaluation period where they learn the company’s processes and high standards of service. They also must complete online certification courses in both pet sitting and pet CPR administered by Pet Care Team Training. Only then do team members get the green light to care for your pets!

4) Pet and Home Care services thousands of pets per month

After 20+ years in business, the numbers have soared to remarkable heights. Pet and Home Care actively services more than 2,000 clients in Maryland and DC, with an estimated 5,000 local pets that enjoy our team’s care. And it’s not just dogs and cats; Pet and Home Care team members look after a wide range of animals, including parrots, hamsters, gerbils, horses, snakes, turtles, frogs, lizards, and even chickens!

5) Pet and Home Care launched its first pet product in 2021

Every good business looks for new market opportunities and PHC is no different. When Tiffany noticed behavioral and anxiety issues with her shih tzu MIllie, she treated her with a small dose of CBD. The results were nothing short of spectacular: Millie’s incessant barking at dinner time and overnight restlessness immediately came to a halt, and with no adverse side effects. Knowing that she was far from the only pet parent with this issue, Tiffany developed a specialized oil for pets using organic hemp grown on her mother’s farm in Ijamsville, MD. The Pleasant Pet Hemp Oil is now available for sale online, and ships to customers in all 50 states!

6) PHC is more than just pets

After all, the company’s name is Pet AND Home Care! PHC offers non-pet home services including home cleaning, house sitting, house checks, plant watering, and more. So even if you’re not a pet parent, PHC still has your tail covered!

As you can see, Pet and Home Care has quite a story to tell, but there are still many more chapters to write. Be a part of the legacy and sign up for new service today!
